Pangasinan to fully implement ‘Anti-Bastos Law’

Lingayen, Pangasinan—Board Member Rosary Gracia P. Perez-Tababa’s resolution urging all Local Government Units (LGUs) in the Province of Pangasinan to fully implement Republic Act No. 11313, or ‘Safe Spaces Act or Anti-Bastos Law,” will be on the agenda in the provincial board’s regular session on Monday, August 19.

The resolution is aimed at protecting individuals from gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, online spaces, workplaces, and educational and training institutions.

As such, the resolution cited that the full implementation of the Safe Spaces Act, which was enacted into law on April 17, 2019, requires the collaboration and active participation of the LGUs to ensure safe spaces for all individuals, regardless of gender, sexual preference, and sexual orientation.

Previously, the Provincial Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Their Children (PIACAT-VAWC) passed Resolution No. 3-2024 to request the enactment of a Provincial Ordinance encouraging all LGUs to fully implement RA 11313.

“RA No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, mandates local government units to exercise local autonomy and ensure the general welfare of the people, particularly in the promotion of their health and safety,” the proposed resolution partly stated. (Ruby F. Rayat/PIMRO)
