BUGALLON, Pangasinan – Earth warriors composed of Sangguniang Kabataan members and league of students in Bugallon flocked the first Kalinisan Karaban “Shopping Day” in this town on February 22.

Kalinisan Karaban, or the “Plastic for Goods” waste reduction program of the provincial government was earlier launched by the provincial government led by Governor Amado I. Espino, III on January 26 at the Capitol ground.

Pangasinan Sangguniang Kabataan Federation Chairman Jerome Vic Espino, joined by Sangguniang Bayan member Winston P. Tandoc, Chairman on Committee on Environmental Management, Bugallon Municipal Administrator Amado L. Aquino and GSO Chief Evan Gladish P. Domalanta, led the opening ceremony.

The young SK Federation chairperson bared that combating the solid waste issues in the province has always been at the topmost priorities of the provincial government.

“Naisipan po ng ating minamahal na gobernador ang programang ito upang solusyunan ang ating problema sa basura,” he said noting that the widespread plastic wastes inspired the provincial chief executive to initiate such solid waste management activity.

Municipal Administrator Aquino said that this program strengthens their campaign against plastic wastes and waste segregation.

According to him, the local government unit of Bugallon remains committed in managing their solid waste and hence, Bugallon town led by Mayor Jumel Anthony I. Espino earlier launched a program identical to the Kalinisan Karaban of the provincial government through their e-Center.

After the program, accrued plastic wastes were weighed and recorded in ledger cards. Participants swapped for grocery items, and other goods in the Kalinisan Karaban mobile truck stationed at the venue.

This province-wide program encourages all Pangasinense to collect plastic wastes, including those that cannot be sold in junkshops, such as plastic cup, spoon and fork, candy wrapper, shampoo sachet in exchange for grocery items, school supplies and other goods.

The Kalinisan Karaban team earlier visited the towns of Bautista on February 15 and Tayug on February 21 to conduct the first-ever “Shopping Day” in their respective towns. The city of San Carlos, on the other hand, is yet to hold its “Shopping Day.”
