National Schools Press Conference 2019

 



Lingayen, Pangasinan — It’s all systems go for the staging of the 2019 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) on January 28 to February 1 in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Fully-supported by the provincial government, the six-day national event gathers over 5,000 campus journalists, school paper advisers, and delegation officials from the 17 participating regions in the country.

In a preliminary conference held December 5 last year, Governor Amado I. Espino, III vowed to provide all out support of the provincial administration, particularly on physical support and assistance to the 17 selected schools which will be used as billeting centers for the visiting delegations.

Component events of the NSPC will be held in several provincial government – managed facilities within the Capitol Complex.

Hosted by the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Pangasinan 1 led by Superintendent Ma. Celia Junio-Fernandez, the NSPC banners the theme: “Fostering 21st Century Skills and Character-based Education through Campus Journalism.”

Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Marilu Cardenas said most events of the NSPC will be conducted at the Pangasinan National High School.

“We are in high hopes that things will go smoothly during the NSPC. We are giving our best efforts preparing for this national event,” Dr. Cardenas said.

Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones will lead the NSPC opening ceremonies on the 28th at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center stadium, which will also be attended by provincial officials led by Governor Espino.

“The opening program will showcase the spectacular talents of Pangasinan, featuring a cultural presentation by seven street dancing contingents,” Cardenas said.

Contested NSPC individual events include: news writing, science and technology writing, feature writing, copy reading and headline writing, editorial writing, editorial cartooning, photojournalism, sports writing, and column writing.

The following are group events: TV and radio scriptwriting and broadcasting, collaborative desktop publishing, online publishing, and best school publications. /Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
