Basketball teams San Carlos City, Bugallon, Urbiztondo
and Sta. Maria advance to the Finals

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan—The basketball teams of San Carlos City, Bugallon, Urbiztondo and Sta. Maria will vie for the championship rounds of the 2nd Pangasinan Inter-LGU Unity Games 2018.

This developed after the four teams emerged as the top contingents in the semi-final rounds which concluded last August 17 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) in which the LGU teams of San Carlos City and Bugallon defeated their nemesis—teams Alaminos City and Bayambang under Division 1, 90-87 and 94-88, respectively.

For Division II, Urbiztondo team, (the champion team in the first edition of the tournament), won over Aguilar in a lopsided game, 99-64, while Sta. Maria defeated Basista contingent by three points, 75-72.

In the volleyball event, teams Sta. Barbara and Alaminos City, both under Division 1, have secured a seat in the championship rounds after defeating teams Rosales and Bayambang. Meanwhile, Burgos contingent for Division II won against Infanta also last August 17.

Sta. Barbara defeated Rosales, 3-0. Alaminos City, on the other hand, won against Bayambang at 3-2, and Burgos with 3-0, against Infanta.

Meanwhile, teams Aguilar and Sison will meet in a do-or-die match, 10 AM on August 23 at the NRSCC gym. The winning team will complete the contingents to vie for the championship in the volleyball event.

The inter-LGU unity games, one of the pet projects of Gov. Amado I. Espino III was launched last year with an objective to develop camaraderie among officials and employees of the various LGUs throughout Pangasinan.

Pangasinan Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) chief Modesto M. Operania said that the best-of three championship series will be held on Thursdays and Fridays starting August 30-31. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
