LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – In support to the National Greening Program (NGP), the Provincial Government of Pangasinan inked a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the establishment of Model Agroforestry Farm in Bugallon.

Governor Amado I. Espino, representing the Provincial Government of Pangasinan, and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) OIC Engr. Raymundo C. Gayo, led the signing of the MOA at the Urduja House on July 9.

It can be recalled that the provincial board led by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. has approved Provincial Resolution No. 1513-2018, which authorizes Governor Amado I. Espino, III to ink a MOA with DENR for the environmental project during its regular session on April 16.

The partnership aims to hasten, accelerate the development and maintenance and protection of open access areas and unproductive forestlands in order to contribute to the attainment of reforesting forestlands under the Enhanced NGP.

The MOA states that the Province of Pangasinan “shall establish and maintain forest tree seedlings nursery within or adjacent the NGP sites for replanting purposes and that no cutting shall be done within the area without prior consent or approval from the DENR until the area is fully planted.”

The DENR, on the other hand, shall conduct the regular monitoring of the established plantation.

It can be learned that a greening program dubbed “Adopt-A-Mountain Tree-Planting Activity,” a brainchild project of Governor Espino and initiated by the PENRO, was launched in August 2017 in the 20-hectare lot situated in Barangay Cayanga, Bugallon was donated by the DENR to the provincial government.

Governor Espino earlier pledged to sustain this environment-friendly drive that will also benefit the future generation of Pangasinan.

As such, the PENRO is regularly conducting protection and maintenance activities on top of the tree-planting activity pegged to safeguard and ensure high-rise survivals of the seedlings planted in Barangay Cayanga.
