LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Preparedness and close coordination among Local Government Units (LGUs) and attached agencies and institutions of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) were observed during the 2nd quarter Nationwide Simulation Earthquake Drill (NSED) in Pangasinan.

 

The provincial government thru the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) showed its “resilient” disaster response capabilities in participating in the NSED for Region 1 which was held in San Carlos City on June 21.

 

Extending the provincial government’s decisive stand on DRRM, PDRRMO Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro reiterated among the NSED participants the tenet “There is always safety in unity” which has always been resonated to communities by Governor Amado I. Espino, III.

 

The PDRRMO took part in the NSED, exhibiting its well-trained disaster responders, and the resources which were procured by the provincial government for disaster response.

 

Meanwhile, Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Melchito Castro lauded the cooperation and close coordination of LGUs and member agencies and institutions of the DRRMC during the earthquake simulation staged in San Carlos City.

 

Castro, Regional DRRMC Chairperson, said LGUs are encouraged to conduct continuous capacity building activities to level up their disaster preparedness.

 

“The disaster response capability of the province is well-equipped, and is very capable,” said Castro who attested that PDRRMO Pangasinan continuously conducts trainings for its disaster responders, and information and education campaigns on disaster preparedness.

 

Castro likewise stated that San Carlos City was selected as venue of the NSED for the region, noting of its location, and the old structures which is prone to collapse when jolted by a high-magnitude earthquake.

 

Bernabe Bacani, Jr. City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer said that while possible injuries of San Carlos City is seen when faced by an unprecedented earthquake, the disaster response capabilities of San Carlenians remains as their strength.
