LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – “We continue with our aim in making Pangasinan a sports destination in the country.”

This was disclosed by Pangasinan Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) Executive Officer Modesto Operania in the recently concluded 2nd Bolinao Super 7 Cup 7-aside Football Tournament  organized by the Pangasinan United Football Club Inc. on November 4, held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center Football Field in Lingayen.

Over a thousand participants comprising 75 football teams joined the four-category tournament dubbed as the biggest 7-aside football tournament held in Pangasinan.

Participating teams for the four categories — Under 13, Under 17, Women’s Open, and Men’s Open — had to kick their way through intense elimination, quarter final, semifinal and the final rounds.

Representing Governor Amado I. Espino, III, PSDMC Executive Officer Operania said that in line with the government’s thrust in promoting youth and sports development, the Provincial Government of Pangasinan is committed in supporting sports events like the 2nd Bolinao Super 7 Cup 7-aside Football Tournament.

According to Philippine Football Federation Grassroots Head Officer Coach Aquilino Pastoral III, this year’s number of participants shows the growing popularity of grassroots football in the province.

Recalling how football aided national and international basketball league players with better footwork and discipline, Operania said that he will endorse football to the young Governor which he hopes to further unite the province through sporting events just the way Governor Espino’s major sports project the Governor’s Cup Inter-Town/City Basketball Tournament which will launch season 2 opening on November 11.

JCI Lingayen Bagoong President Reginald Agsalon, said JCI Lingayen Bagoong is looking forward to more joint sponsorship programs along with the Provincial Government and other sports coordinators to showcase outdoor activities like football and help boost discipline and camaraderie among athletes. Let us make Pangasinan the sports capital not just in the Region but the entire country, Agsalon said.

Winners of the friendly tournament received trophies and tokens of appreciation.

Winners are: Under 13 Champion: Tarlaqueno Football Club, 1st Runner Up: Tuguegarao Football Club, 2nd Runner Up: Sual Football Club. Under 17: Champion: Tarlaqueno Football Club, 1st Runner Up: CG Football Club, 2nd Runner Up: Candon City Football Club. Women’s Open: Champion:Mighty Valorious Women (Olangapo), 1st Runner Up: CG Football Club, 2nd Runner Up: Pozurrobio United Football Association. : Champion: Gordon College, 1st Runner Up: PSU Football Club, 2nd Runner Up: Warriors Football Club.        /Krystle Mae Reamon
