LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The province of Pangasinan exceeded its 85 percent target, as it posted a 95 percent rating to bag its 2nd Hall of Fame (HOF) regional award as best province implementer of the National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration.

 

On top of completing three consecutive years of gaining the accolade as best implementer of NSM in Region 1, a HOF nominee must receive 85 percent rating in the present year, which is based on the criteria: 70%– NSM activities of the province, and 30% – performance of the province in the NSM regional contests.

 

Pangasinan received its first HOF regional award in 2010, for its three-consecutive-year placement as best NSM province implementer in the region (2008, 2009, and 2010). After its three-year exemption, Pangasinan posted a comeback in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

 

Receiving the NSM regional HOF award on behalf of Governor Amado I. Espino, III, was Board Member Noel Bince, chairperson of the 28th NSM provincial steering committee, along with Provincial Planning and Development Officer Benita Pizarro, Provincial Information Officer Orpheus Velasco, few Capitol employees, and Provincial Statistics Officer Edgar Norberte.

 

Presenting the regional HOF award to the Pangasinan delegation during the NSM celebration regional closing ceremony held at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in La Union on October 26 were : Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Director Socrates Ramores, Development and Research Division Head Racquel Atawe of National Economic and Development Authority – Region 1, and Philippine Statistics Associations Incorporated President Milagros Baldemor.

 

“The NSM celebration in Pangasinan heightens awareness on statistics which is relevant in formulating development programs to be more responsive to the crying needs of the times,” BM Bince stressed in the acceptance speech of Governor Espino which he read during the awarding rites.

 

Governor ‘Pogi’ Espino takes credit of the leadership of his predecessor and father, former Pangasinan governor and now 5th district Representative Amado T. Espino, Jr., who “set the standard of excellence which became the benchmark in celebrating the NSM,” Bince said.

 

NSM celebration in Pangasinan saw the implementation of diverse and statistics development – oriented activities, which were conducted in partnership with the provincial government’s partners : Local Government Units, private sector, non-government organizations, national government agencies, and the League of Local Planning and Development Coordinators of the Philippines – Pangasinan Chapter.

 

Out of the 11 NSM contest categories in the regional level, Pangasinan reigned supreme with five championships, three 1st runners-up, two second runners-up, and one 3rd runner-up.

 

Meanwhile, Ma. Chona Fe Manongdo of the Philippine College of Science and Technology in Calasiao received her award as champion in the Kwentong Stats ‘essay writing’ contest, sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education for the regional NSM celebration.

 

The team from Calasiao Comprehensive National High School, who provided special number during the event, was awarded for winning the regional jingle-making contest for secondary level which was held earlier.
