 LINGAYEN, Pangasinan—Team Pangasinan now holds the third top spot in the medal tally of the Batang Pinoy 2017 Luzon Qualifying Leg with 19 golds, 12 silvers and 15 bronzes as of 4:51 PM of October 26.

The Luzon Leg which is being held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, has started on October 21 and will conclude today (Oct. 27).

According to the tally board, the number one spot is occupied by Baguio City contingent followed by Laguna province at second, Pangasinan third, San Jose City, fourth and Dasmarinas City, fifth.

Based on the latest report of the Philippine Sorts Commission (PSC), Team Pangasinan has garnered the following medals:

Archery- 1 gold, 2 bronzes

Athletics (girls)- 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze

Athletics (boys)- 4 silvers, 2 bronzes

Karatedo – 4 golds, 2 silvers, 2 bronzes

Lawn tennis (girls)- 1 silver

Lawn Tennis (boys)- 1 gold

Sepak Takraw (girls)- 1 silver

Sepak Takraw (boys)- 1 gold, 3 bronzes

Table Tennis (girls)- 1 gold, 3 bronzes

Table Tennis (boys)- 3 gold, 1 bronze

Also, Team Pangasinan emerged champion in the basketball boys and girls team events.

For this year’s qualifying leg, Pangasinan has fielded a total of 222 athletes with corresponding number of athletes as follows: archery-8, arnis-25, athletics-28, badminton-8, basketball-29, boxing-9, chess-12, karatedo-15, tennis (lawn)-8, sepak-takraw-10, swimming-20, table tennis-6, taekwondo-20, and volleyball (indoor)-24.

Batang Pinoy is a sports development    program initiated by the PSC and the Philippine Olympic Committee intended to discover potential athletes coming from the grassroots level. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
