LINGAYEN, Pangasinan— Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members Liberato Villegas and Jeremy Agerico Rosario along with some chiefs of office headed by Provincial Administrator Nimrod S. Camba and employees of the provincial government feasted on delectable grilled and fried chicken, hard-boiled chicken and quail eggs through a ‘boodle lunch’ on August 31 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) gymnasium.

The boodle lunch was held to prove that chicken and eggs in Pangasinan are “safe to eat.”

With the theme: “No Worries, Pangasinenses! It’s Safe To Eat Chicken and Eggs,” the activity was initiated by the Provincial Government of Pangasinan through the Provincial Veterinary Office in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Regional Office 1 and jointly coordinated with integrators like Bounty Agro Ventures Inc., Magnolia, CPF, and Foster Foods, Inc.

It can be recalled that the agriculture department earlier declared an outbreak of avian influenza virus (bird flu) in San Luis, Pampanga last August 11.

In Pangasinan, several activities were undertaken to strictly prevent possible transport of affected fowls to the province and in the region as well. As such, all eight animal checkpoints strategically located in different areas were alerted to ensure that no affected commodity can enter.

As stated by Dr. Eric Jose Perez, Provincial Veterinarian, the public need not worry at all since all entry points were all manned on a 24/7 duty.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gilbert Rabara, Pangasinan Research and Experimental Center Chief- DA Region 1, stressed that the bird flu scare must be rectified noting that “Pangasinan and the entire region is avian flu-free” further stating that the agriculture department has been successful in controlling the outbreak that has stricken a poultry farm in San Luis, Pampanga.

Messages of commitment were expressed by each representative of the leading integrators who jointly said that their companies assure the public that their products are safe as they affirm their commitment to provide excellent products to consumers.

Also present during the event were egg producers from Tarlac, La Union and Pangasinan spearheaded by former Dr. Benedicto Perez, former provincial veterinarian. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
